It really feels strange writing about all this when I was there a month ago. Obviously I am a little behind but hopefully I will be caught up before the month is through. Salamanca is famous for its University which is the oldest in Western Europe but it was my least favorite of the four days of travels. None the less it was wonderful.
This is the main square which actually reminds me a lot of the square in Cordoba. It is difficult to get a picture of the entire square but it is a sight to see.
Here is another view with one of the entrances to the square.
By this time I was getting a little tired of the self shots but there was no one around to grab to take my photo at the moment.
I walked through the square towards the rest of the sites on my list. At the other end of the square is where this old market building is located.
I love looking around markets... although it is not as fun when I have no space to prepare or pack anything that I might want to purchase.
Since I found a tranquil spot and was in no hurry I chose to read a bit in this very spot.
Here is a view of the Cathedral. Finally I found the time to take the little tourist train to get a second look at Salamanca! It was great and I had the whole tour in Spanish.
I walked around the entire Cathedral and in the process came across an older Spanish women who was very friendly. We talked for a few minutes before I continued my journey.
Here is the original door of the old University!
I love all of the little detail on the buildings!
This is actually the door I entered for the Cathedral. I am not sure if you have to pay for this Cathedral but I am pretty sure I was not supposed to enter through this door... but it worked out well.
You cannot really see it from this photo but I crossed over the old Roman bridge and then walked down trying to attempt to find the perfect Salamanca picture. The clouds rolled in but it still is a great picture in my opinion.
This House of Shells now occupies the Public Library of Salamanca but was once somebodies home. A house of shells might be the perfect home for me... books and all.
Hope you enjoyed my pictures of Salamanca and have a bit of a better feel of this city. My last stop... Toledo!
